The Sindh Madressatul Islam University holds Election of Students Council 2019-20

SMIU is first ever public university to hold Elections for students societies, Muhammad Ali Shaikh

To promote healthy environment and boost the leadership qualities in students, Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) held annual Elections of Students Council 2019-2020.

There were as many as 35 seats for the seven students societies for 84 candidates contested, and 15 candidates were elected unopposed.

Seven student societies are Science Society, Debating Society, Literary Society, Arts Society, Sports Society, Community Service Society and Music Society. Each society comprises of five members each. Students were free to cast their votes to elect the most competent and favorite contestant for next one year.

This is the fifth consecutive year of election organized under the Department of Student Affairs. The polling began at 9:30am and ended at 3:30pm. During the elections different booths were set up where voting process went smoothly. Before the day of election all the students enthusiastically decorated the election area in front of Talpur house with colorful banners in support of participants.

The worthy vice chancellor of SMIU Dr. Muhammad Ali Shaikh, registrar, Deans and teachers also visited the election area.

On the occasion the Vice chancellor, Dr. Muhammad Ali Shaikh said that this is the first ever public sector university to hold elections for student societies. Extracurricular activities, he said, are the essential part of the varsity, it is a healthy activity for students to enhance democratic values, and organize such type of events which can create a leader for future.
