Sindh Forest dept. to plant trees at SMIU Malir Campus

Sindh Madressatul Islam University and Sindh Forest Department inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up urban forest at SMIU Malir Campus.
Sindh Forest Department will provide 20,000 native plants. The drive to plant trees will continue for one-and-half month.
The forest department will plant the indigenous trees, including ornamental and fruit plants.
During the signing ceremony of the MoU, officials from SMIU and Forest Department agreed that all possible help will be provided for the successful plantation campaign.
“The climate change is one of the major challenges Pakistan has been facing,” said SMIU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mujeebuddin Sahrai Memon. He said that the country could overcome the prevailing situation with the help of vigorous plantation drives.
Prof. Memon said that SMIU’s Environment Science Department was already offering various degree programs and conducting environmental research and studies.
Karachi’s Divisional Forest Officer Mr. Maqsood Ahmed Memon said that Sindh Forest Department has started plantation drive with the help of different government departments as part of the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Project. He said that his department will provide all technical support to SMIU.
University’s Registrar Ghulam Mustafa Shaikh, Deans, Chairpersons, and other officials were present during the MoU signing meeting.
