LIBRARY RULES

1. General Rules

All library members, are required to follow the rules and regulations while using library services and facilities to avoid any disciplinary action.

  • Must punch University card in turnstile gate when you entre/exit in the library.
  • Leave personal belongings (bags) in pigeon lockers.
  • Eatables are not allowed in the library avoid bringing food items in the library.
  • Do not make noise and speak quietly.
  • Make sure that the cell phone is on silent mode.
  • Treat library materials you use with care, do not mark, underline or tear pages in any case.
  • Do not change the order of library furniture and other fixtures.
  • Leave library materials on the tables after reading, do not place them back into the shelves.
  • Do not hesitate to ask for help from the library staff whenever you feel the need or have difficulty in using library services & facilities.
  • 2. Borrowing Rules

    All members can activate their membership just by submitting the library membership form.
    The borrowing privileges may differ depending upon the borrower’s category:

  • Any library material borrowed by any library member is subject to recall, if required by the library, hence the loan period should not be taken as legitimate right.
  • SMIU Library card is non-transferable.
  • Reference and reserved materials, journals, magazines & newspapers can only be consulted within library premises and cannot be borrowed.
  • Borrowing privileges may also be withdrawn from the students who are constantly irregular in returning books or involved in violating library rules.
  • 3. Library Fines

    Books or materials borrowed from the library must be returned on or before due date and time,             following charges otherwise may occur:

    Overdue (per volume) maximum to the replacement cost of an item. Fine will continue to accumulate on daily or hourly basis on all overdue items until the item is renewed, returned, reaches to maximum fine, or is declared lost either by the borrower or by the Library

    Replacement cost for the lost or damaged materials. Another copy of the lost/damaged book /item may be accepted, considering it is original.

    Would be calculated as ‘current list price’ of an item by adding 50% of ‘current list price’ as processing fee.

    If any user caught using someone else’s card without prior written permission, or taken out books/items without proper issuance, through the electronic security door.

    He / She will pay a penalty of Rs 1000/- and/or liable disciplinary action

    In case of reported theft or stealing library materials. Theft/vandalism of library property in terms of books/items of patron is a criminal offence. The person found guilty of doing such acts will lose all rights of using library facilities forthwith and further disciplinary action may be initiated against the offender.

    PKR 5,000/- in addition to the ‘current list price’ would be charged. Library also reserves the right to report the incident to the institute-wide disciplinary committee.

    For the lost Membership Card or Duplicate Card who got registration before 2018.

    4. Books Lost/Damage Policy

  • The patrons must immediately inform the library management if the materials lost or damaged, accidentally or otherwise.
  • The patrons will be responsible for replacing the lost/damaged material by purchasing it himself/herself.
  • If a patron fails to replace the lost or damaged material, a replacement cost equal to two times of price including fine penalty plus 25% extra charges for binding will be charged.
  • OR

  • Library officer will cost the value per page and charged.
  • If the lost damaged book is one of a set or series, the patron may be required to replace the whole set or series.
  • The patron who have lost or damaged the borrowed material shall not be allowed to borrow any library material until the lost material is recovered.
  • The Competent Authority has the power to allow write-off/fine and the librarian on behalf of the Competent Authority/HEC Policy.
