Algorithms, and Truth: SMIU Hosts Insightful Media Literacy Workshop

Sindh Madressatul Islam University organized an insightful workshop titled “Digital Media Literacy: Unlocking the Secrets of AI & Algorithms to Fight Disinformation” at the university’s Senate Hall. The event was arranged by the Department of Media and Communication Studies and facilitated by Dr. Sumera Memon, Assistant Professor and Departmental Coordinator.

The workshop focused on the growing challenges of misinformation and disinformation in the digital era, highlighting how Artificial Intelligence and algorithms influence online content and public opinion. Participants were trained on identifying algorithmic biases, combating fake information, and developing critical digital literacy skills essential in today’s AI-driven media environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sumera Memon emphasized the importance of responsible digital citizenship and media literacy for students, researchers, and media professionals. The interactive session concluded with a question-and-answer segment, followed by the presentation of a shield to the facilitator by Chairperson Dr. Ambreen Fazal. Faculty members and students from various departments attended the workshop.
