SMIU Senate Approves Budget, Reviews University Progress
The 9th Senate meeting of Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) was held on April 15, 2026, under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Universities and Boards, Muhammad Ismail Rahoo, who presided on behalf of the Chancellor. Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, senior government officials, HEC representatives, and Senate members attended the meeting.
The Senate approved the minutes of previous statutory meetings and the university’s 2026–27 annual budget. Dr. Sahrai informed members that despite inflation, SMIU had maintained a balanced budget without any financial deficit. The Senate also nominated Dr. Inayat Ali Magsi to the Finance and Planning Committee for two years.
The provincial minister praised SMIU’s financial discipline and academic progress, describing it as a model for other universities. Dr. Sahrai highlighted key achievements, including the university’s sixth convocation, the successful Global Research Congress, and research initiatives. The Senate also appreciated Dr. Sahrai’s nomination for the Sitara-i-Imtiaz and commended his leadership in strengthening the university.
