Governor Sindh Confers “Sitara-e-Imtiaz" to Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai

Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi on behalf of the President of Pakistan conferred Presidential Award “Sitara Imtiaz” to prominent educationist and longest-serving Vice Chancellor of Sindh Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai at a ceremony held at the Governor House on Wednesday. Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai is currently serving as the vice chancellor of Sindh Madressatul Islam University. It is a recognition of his outstanding services in the field of education in the country. 

Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai’s professional experience spans more than 36 years in a diverse range of fields. Previously, Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai served as vice chancellor of the Sindh Agriculture University (2014-2020), Tandojam, where he had been engaged in the transformation of the university to bring it at par with the mainstream of higher educational institutes (HEIs) of this country. Dr. Sahrai also held acting charge of the vice chancellor, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Sakrand, from 2018 to 2020. Besides all that, Dr. Sahrai has distinctive merit as the Founder Principal / Patron in Chief of three institutes including Mehran University College of Engineering and Technology, Khairpur Mirs (2009); Khairpur College of Agricultural Engineering and Management, Khairpur (2014); and Sindh Agricultural University Sub-Campus at Umerkot (2017). Dr. Sahrai also held additional charge of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University of Law (SZABUL), Karachi.

Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai started his academic career as a lecturer in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET), Jamshoro in August 1988 and thereafter earned the Quaid-e-Azam merit scholarship and completed his Ph.D. from the world-reputed Thermo-Fluid Mechanics Research Center (TFMRC) at Sussex University, UK. After successful completion of his Ph.D., he was appointed as an associate professor in the year 1995, a professor in the year 2000, and then became a meritorious professor in the year 2013. Dr. Sahrai is the author of fifty-five (55) research papers and supervised three PhD scholars with notable honour to produce the first PhD in the Mechanical Engineering Department at MUET, Jamshoro.

Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai has presented research papers in international conferences in various countries including the U.K., Australia, Italy, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Czech Republic, Singapore, and Romania. He has been regularly invited as a guest speaker at various national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops.

In recognition of his academic and research performance, he was awarded the Best University Teacher Award by the Higher Education Commission, Islamabad, in the year of 2008. Now he has received the highest civil award of Pakistan, “Sitara-e-Imtiaz.”

On the other hand, the faculty, officers, and other staff of Sindh Madressatul Islam University have congratulated Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai on receiving the Presidential Award, saying that this award is not only a personal honour for Dr. Sahrai, but it is also an honor for Sindh Madressatul Islam University and for the educational community of Pakistan.
