SMIU Launches “SMI Alumni Association” on 141st Foundation Day
SMI formally launched the “SMI Alumni Association” during the 141st Foundation Day celebrations held at Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium on September 1, 2025.
The association was inaugurated by Sindh Education Minister and Pro-Chancellor of public sector universities Syed Sardar Ali Shah along with Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, noted academician Syed Jaffar Ahmed, former Secretary Education Akbar Laghari and distinguished alumni through a symbolic candle-lighting ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Syed Sardar Ali Shah appreciated the initiative and said the platform would reconnect former students with their alma mater, which also produced great personalities including Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai congratulated the Alumni Committee, particularly Mr. Asif Hussain Samo and Ms. Quratulain Nazeer Ahmed, for their efforts in establishing the association. He said the platform would strengthen collaboration between alumni and the university for academic and institutional development.
During the ceremony, souvenirs prepared by the Alumni Committee were presented to distinguished alumni, including Ayaz Ahmed Uqaili and Dr. Subhash Babu, in recognition of their contributions.
Distinguished alumnus Dr. Asif Shaikh addressed the event online and congratulated SMIU on its 141st Foundation Day. He recalled his memorable student life at SMI and paid tribute to his teachers.
The organizing committee of the Alumni Association is currently compiling data of SMI alumni serving in Pakistan and abroad to strengthen future networking and engagement initiatives.
