SMIU Literary and Arts Societies Organize “Jashn-e-Shaeri” to Celebrate Classical Urdu and Sindhi Poetry
Society and Arts Society of Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) jointly organized a vibrant literary and cultural evening titled “Jashn-e-Shaeri” at the university auditorium, attracting a large and enthusiastic audience.
The programme aimed to promote and revive classical Urdu and Sindhi poetry through theatrical performances, poetic recitations and musical expression. The event opened with a documentary on renowned Urdu poet Josh Malihabadi, highlighting his literary journey and enduring contribution to Urdu literature.
A major highlight was a dramatized mushaira, in which students portrayed celebrated poets and performed their poetry, including Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Ahmad Faraz, Muneer Niazi, Nasir Kazmi, Jaun Elia, Parveen Shakir and Shaikh Ayaz. The performances received enthusiastic applause, with the portrayal of Jaun Elia drawing particularly strong appreciation from the audience.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Subash, Chairperson, Department of Social and Development Studies, appreciated the students’ creative efforts and emphasized the importance of connecting young people with literary and cultural heritage.Assistant Professor Wafa Mansoor Buriro, Patron of the Literary Society, also commended the joint efforts of the Literary and Arts Societies in promoting literary culture on campus.The evening concluded with a lively musical jamming session featuring singing and beatboxing performances by students, adding a contemporary touch to the literary celebration.The organizers described “Jashn-e-Shaeri” as a successful initiative that brought classical poetry to life through creative student performances and strengthened literary and cultural engagement at SMIU.
