SMIU Raises Voice Against Plastic Pollution on World Environment Day

Sindh Madressatul Islam University, in collaboration with Pakistan Red Crescent Society, organized a seminar titled “Echoes of Earth: Voices Against Plastic Pollution” in connection with World Environment Day.

Environmental experts, academicians, and policymakers expressed concern over rising plastic pollution, noise pollution, and climate-related environmental changes in Pakistan. Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai emphasized the importance of environmental education, public awareness, and the role of policymakers and institutions in addressing climate and environmental challenges. He also encouraged students to pursue studies in environmental sciences.

Provincial Secretary of Pakistan Red Crescent Society, Mr. Kanwar Waseem, highlighted the organization’s role in disaster management and stressed the need for behavioral change to protect the environment. Ms. Sadia Tariq administered a pledge to participants to combat plastic pollution and promote environmental responsibility.

The seminar was attended by faculty members, administrative staff, environmental experts, and a large number of students. Souvenirs were later distributed among the guests by the Vice Chancellor.
