SMIU Scholar Successfully Defends PhD Thesis on Human Behavior Analysis Using Textual Data
Karachi, November 21, 2025: Ms. Asia Samreen has successfully defended her PhD thesis titled “Intelligent Presentation Scheme (IPS) to Identify Human Behavior Using Textual Data” at Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU), becoming the second scholar to complete a PhD from SMIU in 2025.
The final defense presentation was held at the Senate Hall and presided over by Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai. The session was attended by the student’s supervisor Dr. Syed Asif Ali, deans, senior faculty members, external experts, and research scholars.
Presenting her research findings, Ms. Asia Samreen explained that textual data can reveal hidden intentions, emotions, sentiments, and behavioral patterns, enabling the prediction of future activities. She highlighted that the proposed system could help identify potential fraudsters, individuals at risk of self-harm, and students facing psychological challenges, thereby contributing to safer and more secure digital environments.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai congratulated the scholar on the successful completion of her research and appreciated the quality and relevance of her work. He emphasized that SMIU remains committed to promoting a strong research culture and encouraging innovative studies that contribute to societal development and national progress.
Ms. Asia Samreen, a Senior Assistant Professor at Bahria University, Karachi, was enrolled in the PhD program of the Department of Computer Science at SMIU in 2018. She completed all requirements of the Higher Education Commission and successfully defended her doctoral research. Dr. Adnan Khursheed presented a brief introduction of the scholar at the beginning of the session.
