SMIU Students Societies Hold a Session of Book Club
Sindh Madressatul Islam University’s (SMIU) Literary Society and Debating Society jointly organized a unique Book Club session featuring a parliamentary debate on George Orwell’s Animal Farm. Held at the Senate Hall, the session was chaired by Husnain Ali and Aman Ali. Assistant Professor Wafa Mansoor Buriro opened the discussion by highlighting the novel’s social relevance and its contemporary significance. Students debated the themes of power and inequality, with one team representing the elite class and the other advocating for the lower and middle classes. Following structured arguments and rebuttals, the audience voted decisively in favor of the lower-class perspective, 26 votes to 8. The event reflected SMIU students’ enthusiasm for critical thinking, literary analysis, and meaningful intellectual discourse.
