SMIU to Name Academic Block After Abdul Sattar Edhi on 9th Death Anniversary
Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) paid rich tribute to renowned philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi at a seminar organized on his 9th death anniversary at the university's Senate Hall.
Speakers at the event observed that Edhi's selfless services for humanity have granted him immortal life that will be remembered for centuries.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai announced that an academic block at SMIU's Malir Campus will be named after Abdul Sattar Edhi as a salute to his matchless services for the poor and underprivileged. Dr. Sahrai described Edhi as a "perfect and complete philanthropist" who dedicated his entire life to humanity without accumulating any personal property, adding that he had never found anyone like Edhi among philanthropists worldwide.
Dr. Jamshed Adil Halepoto, Dean of the Faculty of Management, Business Administration and Commerce, highlighted that Edhi gave names, shelter, and education to countless orphaned children. Dr. Subhash, Chairman of the Department of Social and Development Studies, traced the history of philanthropy in Karachi, noting that after the independence of Pakistan, a young Abdul Sattar Edhi began caring for the city's poor, injured, and needy.
Ms. Uzma Batool presented Edhi's life sketch, while Ms. Sundas Nisar conducted the proceedings. The event was attended by Dean of IT Dr. Aftab Ahmed Shaikh, along with chairpersons, faculty, and students.
